Abstract

|
The measurement of red cell levels of 2, 3-DPG that play a central role in
determining the affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen has performed in ACD-stored blood
between 0 and 21 days.
"Ultraviolet Enzymatic Determination Method" (Rose-Liebowitz, Sigma Chemical Co.)
was used for the quantitative measurement of 2, 3-DPG.
In blood ACD-stored under the conventional blood tank conditions, the 2, 3-DPG level
drops sharply and 4 days of storage 2, 3-DPG level are approximately 50% of their
original level.
After 9th day of storage, they have fallen under 1.0¥ì mole/§¢ level and by 12 days
of storage they are only 10% of their original content. The purpose of this
communication is to report a normal level of Korean people and a changes of 2, 3-DPG
level in ACD-stored blood according to various period of time.
We hope this data should help for the patient who has profound hypoxia receive a
stored blood containing good amounts of 2, 3-DPG in red cells.
